The future of digital displays is made of glass and design

A fantastic video that shows us what the future of digital displays (and life) can be. A beautifully executed vision where design plays a key role. With almost 10 million YouTube views, this video is also a great example of corporate viral marketing that doesn't fall into the gimmick trap and stays consistently relevant, on brand and on message.

Google Translate. Voice activated translation app

With high customer ratings Google Translate is a handy (and fun) iPhone app for translations on the go. Simply speak what you want translated and the app will speak back the translation, available in 15 languages, or a written translation in more than 50 languages. This technology has the potential to make a serious dent on the translations industry. With high customer ratings Google Translate is a handy (and fun) iPhone app for translations

Geotagging and Augmented Reality can be a very sexy couple (for marketers)

A clever Esquire magazine promotion using geotagging and augmented reality entices guys to go to a Barnes & Noble store with the promise that the sexy model Brooklyn Decker will pose next to them for a photo. Not a bad bait for the Esquire target crowd. There is a catch though, Ms. Decker will only appear in your iPhone virtually not in person and you would also have to be located within a 150 feet of the magazine section. You can then get yourself in the picture with the sexy (virtual) model and share it with your FaceBook friends. The app developed by GoldRun can create small GPS zones, identifying locations through their latitude and longitude, to work with site specific promotions. Read the full New York Times story.

A well executed minimalist design idea with a sense of humor

I love the simplicity of this elegantly minimalist design concept. Developed by Korean Studiooo Factory it has a very playful Asian sensibility. Based on the concept of looking at mobile devices as pets that stay with you wherever you go. This concept adds a touch of life to an otherwise rather cold device. It somehow humanizes it, makes it fun and makes you feel even closer to your mobile, if that's even possible. The branding and packaging implementation carries very well the brand personality without losing its sense of humor.  You can see more pictures and buy your Mobile Tail here.

Times Square Official New Year’s Eve Ball App - 2011. An app that works for consumers and advertisers

Surely this App looks fun but what I like most is how well tackles the needs of users with a variety of engaging interactive games and tools (access to live streaming video from different locations), social sharing and a photo contest. The need of advertisers by allowing an integrated sponsorship with viral potential (Toshiba will show the photo contest winner face in its massive screen right next to the Times Square Ball) and finally how it fulfills the potential of Apps as a viable marketing medium generating revenue for ad agencies and developers. Download the Times Square Official New Year’s Eve Ball App for Mac and Android. Enjoy it! Happy New Year!!
